My husband and I are major foodies, and one of our favorite cuisines to eat (we could literally eat it daily) is Korean food. This may be partly because it’s deeply nostalgic for my husband (he’s 50% Korean) and let me tell you, my mother-in-law can throw down when it comes to cooking. Seriously, she’s a fantastic cook, and it’s not just that I’m biased!
With that said, we’re always excited when we spot a place that reminds us of her home cooking. So when we discovered Mornings Café in the Catskills, we couldn’t wait to visit; though I’ll admit, we were a little hesitant. Would it really live up to the high expectations in our heads?
They have an entire section of market goods, featuring high-quality local ingredients and unique sauces you can try before you buy. One standout was a curry sriracha made in Brooklyn. It had a turmeric twist on a traditional sriracha, and it was so delicious.
I was also impressed by the number of creative drinks they offered. Their matcha menu alone is incredible. Based on what they offer they could say that they were a matcha cafe and I would 100% agree! Despite my love of matcha, I ended up choosing a cardamom orange pistachio latte (yes, that’s a mouthful), while Ben ordered the lychee iced tea. Both were absolutely delicious. We kept swapping drinks because we couldn’t decide which was better.
Each plate came with rice, broccoli kimchi, and cabbage kimchi. Needless to say we cleaned our plates without hesitation. Later, I spoke with the owner, who shared that her mom actually makes the kimchi herself. I thought that was so sweet and it completely explains why you can taste the love in every bite.
