Tulum has been a hotspot for travelers over the past few years, and after watching countless YouTube videos on this jungle paradise, it was an easy choice for our honeymoon. I can see why Tulum is such a popular destination with its rich history and breathtaking cenotes —natural underground reservoirs of water.
When it comes to top notch restaurants Tulum is a force to be reckoned with! Despite it being somewhat of a small town they have a number of restaurants featured in the Michelin Guide. While they may be pricier than other spots in Mexico, they’re still quite reasonable compared to dining in New York. So we were so excited to get a Michelin experience without breaking the bank.
Below are some of our favorite places that made our trip unforgettable:
This spot is all about mojitos—and they don’t just serve them, they craft them right in front of you by grinding fresh sugar cane! The mojitos were delicious, the tacos were fantastic, and while we went early, we heard that live music makes the evenings even more magical.• Mestixa:
A Michelin Guide restaurant that blends Mexican and Japanese flavors—but don’t call it fusion, they’ll correct you! The bao buns were a standout, but the miso flan stole the show. Served inside a coconut with white chocolate and other intricate flavors, it was a dessert masterpiece presented over ice.
• Matcha Mama:
This place was hyped up, and as a matcha lover, I had to see if it lived up to expectations. It did! My matcha smoothie was delicious, and even my husband, who opted for a non-matcha drink, loved his choice.
• Burrito Amor:
If you love burritos, this is a must-visit. Their burritos are wrapped in banana leaves, and the menu is diverse, making it a great spot for gluten-free and vegan diners. The atmosphere for this place is great too, but this night we decided to get it to go and enjoy burritos back in our hotel room. For creative lattes, this is the place! We tried the taro and red velvet lattes, and even my husband, who usually sticks to drip coffee, was impressed. Pictured above is their chilaquiles with green sauce, it was yummy!
• Alma Verde:
A chic spot near the beach with both indoor and outdoor seating. The food pays homage to French cuisine, and everything we tried was incredible.
• La Taquería:
These tacos are on the pricier side, but man do they deliver! I had an octopus taco, and it was phenomenal. The cocktails here are also worth mentioning—they were next-level.• Hartwood:
Another Michelin Guide restaurant, I save the best for last. Hartwood is a unique restaurant because everything is cooked over an open flame, and they operate with a zero carbon footprint. The spoken menu changes daily, and honestly, this was our favorite meal in Tulum. The food, drinks, service, and plating were all flawless—our only regret was not having more room in our stomachs to eat more!Tulum will definitely be a place Ben and I will cherish forever. There is so much to do but also a perfect place to relax. If you are planning a trip I hope you enjoy these restaurants as much as we did. Also, make sure you read my post about where we stayed, because for us we felt like our hotel really made Tulum the most dreamy of all vacations.
